The first round of our 2019 Readers’ Choice Chicago Brewery Bracket is in the books, after 78,278 total votes–with 17,459 coming from the South. Here, the region went chalk, as all of the top seeds advanced. Who’ll survive among these top breweries to make Round 3?

Vote for your favorite breweries below, and we will tally the votes in order to select a “Sweet 16” for the next round. Voting for Round 2 concludes, Sunday, 3/17 at 5pm CST.

And be sure to vote for the other regions here:  NORTH  |  WEST  |  SUBURBS

Marz Community Brewing (1) vs. Open Outcry Brewing Co. (8)

Marz’s first year on the top line of the South region won’t be easy, as the second round provides a matchup against Beverly’s feisty Open Outcry. These two met last year in the Elite 8, with Marz advancing to the Final 4. Who’ll win the rematch?

Whiner Beer Co. (3) vs. Moody Tongue Brewing Co. (6)

This matchup provides a battle between not just two of the city’s best breweries, but two of the best taprooms. Do you prefer the funky sours and industrial grit of Back of the Yard’s Whiner, or the culinary-focused ales and minimalism behind Pilsen’s Moody Tongue?

Haymarket Pub & Brewery (4) vs. Illuminated Brew Works (5)

This 4- vs. 5-seed competition will decide which ‘honorary’ South Side brewery will advance. Haymarket and Illuminated might be West Loop neighbors, but one will have to move on to represent the pseudo-South Side.
